Oxygen Deprivation

Starving a fire of oxygen may work for a while; however an oxygen deprived fire can prepare material to burn much more intensely when a fresh supply of oxygen is provided. This is the very condition that occurs when an aircraft descends from altitude.

One of the most significant problems with trying to deprive a fire of oxygen is that existing containers (ULD's) are not able to maintain their structural integrity during a fire.

Live fire testing in 2006 revealed that a free burn inside of a standard aluminum AMJ container resulted in structural failure of the container within 20 minutes. The container was filled 112 cardboard boxes filled with shredded paper.

Take notice of the burn through hole on lower left corner of the container.

Here you can see the deformation of side wall of the container. This was caused when the aluminum approached solution temperature.

The Ventura Aerospace Fire Suppression System can prevent this from happening by suppressing the fire before it can cause this kind of damage. Learn More
